Diet By Disease
Did you know that you can choose a diet by the disease you have? Sometimes, certain health conditions dictate what you can and cannot eat. Therefore, you end up having to follow a specific dietary plan of action in order to maintain your health or even improve it. For many people, choosing a diet by the disease you have can put quite a kink in your life. However, if it will save your life, you have no other options. Let’s take a look at the different types of diets by disease: 1. Hypertension – Also known as high blood pressure, there are a number of factors that play into this condition. Genetics of course is one factor that you cannot change. What you can change however is your diet. There is something called the DASH diet which stands for Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension. You will find that this diet by disease is full of low fat dairy, lean cuts of meat, fish, green leafy vegetables, fruits and whole grains. What you will not find on this diet is a lot of sodium as it causes your blood vessels to constrict which is a big contributor to high blood pressure. Couple the DASH diet with exercise and you just might find you within a normal blood pressure range at your next doctor visit. 2. Renal failure diet – When it comes to this diet by disease, sodium and excess fluids are major no-no’s. They could put too much stress on already delicate kidneys. In addition, foods with high potassium and protein content must be avoided as well. The kidneys act as a filter for these foods so when your kidneys are already in renal failure, they do not need the added stress of trying to filter out the potassium and protein. 3. Cancer prevention diet – When it comes to cancer, choosing a diet by disease for this can be a bit more complicated. There are a quite a few different types of cancer and each one is unique. However, there are a few common elements that will help in the prevention of cancer. For instance, choosing foods with plenty of antioxidants like plenty of fruits and vegetables will help in the fight against cancer. Foods high in lycopene are also important. You can find lycopene in watermelon, ketchup, and grapefruit. Add more clean living methods like no smoking and no drinking and you would be living healthy and hopefully cancer free.
