Despite the name, the rice diet is not all about rice. Rather, it is a low salt, low fat diet. The rice diet was created in the early part of the 20th century at Duke University, so you will sometimes see it referred to as the Duke University rice diet or the duke rice diet. This rice diet plan combines the building blocks of healthy eating like whole grains, beans, vegetables, fruits, fat-free dairy products and lean cuts of meat. It also incorporates “me” time and exercise. The key to the rice diet is that it is typically medically supervised. The reason is that this rice diet program is often prescribed to the obese.
